Playground fun accessibility specification
The Playground fun website offers a high quality experience to every user to
ensure that assistive technologies, including screen readers and magnifiers can
interact effectively with the content and that learners with differing needs
can use Playground fun.
Parents, teachers and children will use the Playground fun site. The following
features aim to ensure that an equal experience is available to all, including:
- visually impaired learners
- hearing impaired learners
- motor impaired learners
- learners with cognitive difficulties.
Navigation
The site navigation is consistent throughout
the entire site and the home page can be reached by clicking the Playground fun
logo or the Games to play link. In cases where interactions are complex, users
are a single click from the main menu.
Assistive technologies
Playground fun accessibility features have been
developed with the guidance of City University, who have tested the site during development. Playground fun has
been tested using the Freedom Scientific JAWS screen reader version 6.10.

Navigational elements
- Alt tags are used throughout the
site.
- For Flash content, an alternative
accessible HTML version of content is offered.
- The site provides a logical tabbing
order. IF the user tabs to a link to move to the next page upon pressing
- Proprietary keyboard short cuts are
not used.
Interoperability
- The site allows the user's browser
to override the
CSS presentation of fonts.
Multimedia content
Video conveys events through voice,
background sound and visual elements within the scene. The transcript provided
to benefit both hearing and visually impaired learners.
